What you can do

  • Write private notes inside a vault.
  • Keep them next to the photos and documents they belong with.
  • Rely on the same AES-256-GCM encryption as the rest of the vault.
  • Write as many as you like: notes are unlimited on every plan, including Free.

What people keep in them

Details that go with a document, a door or safe code, account numbers, a list of what’s in the vault, or anything you’d rather not leave in a notes app that syncs everywhere.

Two honest tips

  • For passwords you type every day, a password manager with autofill is still the better tool. On iOS 18 and later, that can be Apple’s own Passwords app.
  • Don’t keep your OwlVault recovery phrase in an OwlVault note. If you ever need the phrase, it’s because you can’t open the vault.

Photos & videos

Move photos and videos out of your camera roll into encrypted vaults, or take them straight inside the vault.

IDs & expiry reminders

Scan your passport, ID or driver’s license. Get a reminder 90, 30 and 7 days before it expires.

Face ID & recovery

Optional Face ID for one vault, and a 12-word recovery phrase to open your vaults on a new iPhone.
