Passport and ID expiry reminder
Enter a document and its expiry date, and get a calendar file with reminders 90, 30 and 7 days before it expires. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or choose is uploaded or sent to any server.
Your reminders
Reminders 90, 30 and 7 days before, plus one on the expiry day, each with an alert at 9:00.
How to add the file to your calendar
- iPhone or iPad: after downloading, open the file (from the download prompt or the Files app) and add the events to your calendar.
- Mac: open the downloaded file; Calendar asks which calendar to add the events to.
- Google Calendar: on a computer, open Settings → Import & export → Import and choose the file.
- Outlook: open the file, or import it from the calendar view.
If your expiry date is close, reminders that would fall in the past are left out; the page tells you which.
Renewing a passport: what to check early
Rules and processing times are set by the country that issued your passport, and they change. A few things are worth checking well before the expiry date:
- How long your passport must still be valid where you’re going. Some destinations require a passport to stay valid for a while after the end of your trip, and airlines may check this when you check in.
- Current processing times at the office that issues your passport. They are often longer before holiday seasons.
- Whether you need an appointment, and how far ahead they are booked.
- Photo and document requirements, so your application isn’t sent back.
- Travel plans while you wait. Don’t book trips that depend on a passport you haven’t received yet.
Keep a copy and the reminders in one place
In OwlVault you can scan both sides of your passport, ID or driver’s license, keep them encrypted on your iPhone, and get the same 90, 30 and 7-day reminders. The reminder notifications never say which document is expiring.
Questions
Is the date I enter sent anywhere?
No. The calendar file is created by your browser on your device. Nothing you type leaves this page, and nothing is stored after you close it.
Which calendars can open the file?
It's a standard calendar file (.ics). Apple Calendar on iPhone, iPad and Mac, Google Calendar and Outlook can all import it. Some calendar apps ignore the alert times in imported files and use their own default alerts instead, so check the events after importing.
Why 90, 30 and 7 days?
Renewing a document can take weeks, and you may need an appointment first. 90 days gives you time to act calmly; 30 and 7 days are the safety net. The same schedule is used in the OwlVault app.
What does the discreet option do?
The calendar events are called “Document renewal reminder” instead of naming the document, so a glance at your calendar or lock screen doesn't tell anyone what you're renewing.
